We need some solid finances to get the campaign into full swing.  This campaign will be very hard-fought,
    so every donated dollar is critically important.

    Yes, this is my official request for donations.  But here's the good news.  I am only asking for a loan!  
    Minnesota campaign finance laws allow for an eligible voter to contribute $50 or for a married couple to
    donate $100 to a candidate, then get it all back directly from the State of Minnesota.   We will send you a
    receipt for the amount, with a refund form, and then you mail it to the Department of Revenue.  Easy!  You
    will receive a full refund in 6-8 weeks.

    Many politicians rely on huge donations from special interest groups or wealthy friends.  I am not one of
    them. I count on lots of working people and everyday organizations with small donations.  The political
    contribution refunds that I explained are part of a successful campaign reform program enacted, thanks to
    DFL leadership.  It has has resulted in guaranteeing that virtually all candidates for Minnesota office adhere
    to spending limits.

    Integrity and listening to the people in my district still mean a lot to me. Over the past 14 years in Winona, I
    have established a long record of proven leadership, positive attitude and principled decision-making. With
    the loss of representation in rural Minnesota and more legislative power centering in the metro and suburbs,
    electing dynamic Senators who can cooperate and advocate vigorously for small communities has never
    been more important.

    I am so proud of our corner of the state. We are one of Minnesota's best-kept rural secrets with America's
    favorite river, our hardwood forests, prairies and blufflands, rocky outcroppings, miles of ploughed fields,
    varied economic base, and our diverse people and historic hometowns. I want to be your Senator. Your help
    is needed to restore Democratic leadership in District #31. Can I count on your "loan" to support my Senate
